ICST Scholarships

Celia Harris was a long time actor and supporter of the arts. She performed in many Neewollah productions and was a donor for Independence Children's Summer Theatre from our first season in 2005. Celia took her final curtain call in 2010 and memorial funds donated to the Independence Thespian Society Organization are being used to establish a scholarship for each ICST show in her honor. The scholarship will pay for participation fees and two tickets to the show.

The scholarship for Disney's Aladdin Jr was awarded to the ICST actor that played the same role in Wizard of OZ as Celia did for the 1997 Neewollah production of Wizard of OZ. This was Celia's first Neewollah Musical. Celia played the Munchkin Coroner as did our 2010 Celia Harris Scholarship recipient.

The scholarship for Disney's Cinderella Kids was awarded to the son of the person that played Daisy Mae to Celia's Mammy Yokum in the 2005 Neewollah production of Li'l Abner. This was a role that was the perfect fit for the plucky and straight forward Ms. Harris.

Beginning in 2011, the Celia Harris Scholarship will be open for application to any participant cast for the ICST summer shows. Applications should be submitted to the board following auditions for the 2011 season. Nominations & Applications should be submitted to the ICST Board by sending a letter to

Winners will be chosen by the ICST Board. Scholarship criteria may include any of the following areas: Relationship to Celia Harris; Family member of ITSO; Multiple family members cast; Financial Need; History of parent volunteer participation; Exemplary behavior in past productions; Participation in previous chorus roles.
